So you just bought this brand new $400 PS3 and now you're having problems. It never fails for a piece of hardware to go bad. You're out of luck contacting Sony. If you're out of warranty they want $150. Follow this how to repair ps3 if you come across some problems.
First things First
When you go to turn on your game and you get the blinking red light there is a definite issue. First before you panic, try to turn the game off for one minute or two and then turn it back on. Lots of the time if you catch it early it could be fixed by this simple step.
Secondly
If the light is still on pull out the hard drive. Overheating will cause this red light. This may sound easy but there are some screws that need to come loose. Let the hard drive cool off for about half an hour or so. Return it to its rightful place, your games should run smoothly.
It's not reading the discs.
When you are unable to read the disc it is most likely the laser. The laser is kind of hard to clean so again be very careful. Remove a couple of screws under the outer shell. Their may be a couple of layers to remove. The laser should be visible do not touch it. Gently wipe it clean with a Q-tip. Pour just a little alcohol on the Q-tip, try not to soak it.
There is no power to it.
If it doesn't turn on at all, replace the power supply. Unless you heard a fuse blow out, it would have sounded like a loud pop. Do a Google search for a new power supply and install it. If it was the fuse take it out of the power and bring it to a store. Most likely they will be able to find the fuse.
This is critical.
You paid an arm and a leg for one of the hottest gaming consoles out there. Who wants to pay another arm for it to be fixed? Learn to repair ps3 and it will save you time and money.
